Körper erst kugelig, später zylindrisch, bis 200 cm hoch, nicht sprossend;
Rippen 25, 3 cm hoch;
Areolen entfernt, braun;
Randdornen bis 5 cm lang, borstig oder feinnadelig, weiß bis rot;
Mitteldornen ca. 15 cm lang, viel stärker, geringelt, abgeflacht, stark hakig;
Blüten bis 6 cm lang, gelb bis purpurrot;
Früchte 5 cm lang, gelb;
Samen länglich-eiförmig, mattschwarz;
USA (Texas bis Arizona),
Mexico, im Norden bis Baja California;
Pflege 7,
sehr warm und sonnig;
lehmiges, nahrhaftes Substrat;
im Winter kühl und trocken;
nicht Pfropfen!
