Notes
- The CyberVision64/3D started shipping on December 23, 1996.
- Major differences from Trio64 to ViRGE
- Graphics engine is completely different
- ViRGE has a different bus interface for expansions called 'Scenic Highway'
- ViRGE has builtin video overlay
- ViRGE features a 3D engine which allows drawing of gouroud shaded or texture mapped triangles
- IF you are upgrading from another GFX card You might want to set the the WB screen mode to NTSC before rebooting with CV3D/V3. Just incase everything is not happy.
Upgrading from CGX V2 to CGX V3
Now that there is drivers for other cards I put this section together to tell you how to
upgrade to V3 from a working V2 system. There is no V2->V3 update script yet. It is in the works. You must upgrade by hand.
It is very easy to upgrade!
There IS a First-time V3 installer in the > r69 archives!
{gfxboard} can = CVision3D, CVision64 (OLD: Cybervision), PicassoII (OLD: Picasso), PicassoIV, Spectrum, Piccolo, PiccoSD64, Inferno, RetinaZ3, CGXAGA
- CyberGraphX V3 config files have moved to different locations.
- 1 ) MAKE the directories ENV:CyberGraphX and ENVARC:CyberGraphX
- 2 ) COPY ENVARC:cybergraphics/#? to ENVARC:CyberGraphX
- 3 ) MAKE the directory sys:prefs/presets/monitors
- 4 ) COPY ENVARC:cybergraphics/{gfxboard}/#? to system:prefs/presets/monitors
- 5 ) COPY cgxsystemlib/cgxsystem.library & cgxbootpiclib/cgxbootpic.library SYS:Libs
- If you did not know there are 3 different versions of the cgxsystem.library:
cgxsystem.library.020, cgxsystem.library.040, cgxsystem.library.PPC. You
need to pick the right one and rename it to cgxsystem.library before
you copy it to SYS:Libs.
- 5a) If you have a CV64/3D: COPY cgxvideolib/cgxvideo.library SYS:Libs
- If you did not know there are 2 different versions of the cgxvideo.library:
cgxsystem.library.020, cgxsystem.library.040. You
need to pick the right one and rename it to cgxvideo.library before
you copy it to SYS:Libs.
- 6 ) COPY ENVARC:cybergraphics/'{gfxboard}Monitor' to ENVARC:CyberGraphX/'{gfxboard}Monitor'
- NOTE: 2 GFX cards Monitor Driver & config names HAVE changed
- Picasso is now called PicassoII. So '{gfxboard}Monitor' = PicassoIIMonitor
- CyberVision is now called CVision64. So '{gfxboard}Monitor' = CVision64Monitor
- 7 ) MOVE the old monitor file out of devs:monitors to a backup-dir
- 8 ) COPY the V3 version of the monitor file from XXDrivers/{gfxboard} to devs:Monitors
- XX = The Dirver-MonitorFiles are in sub-directories named after the chipset that is
used on the board. CLDrivers = Cirrus Logic, AADrivers = CBM Chips Sets, S3Drivers = S3, SLDriver = Symbios Logic, TIDrivers = Texas Instruments.
9 ) CHANGE the Workbench resolution in 'sys:prefs/ScreenMode' to NON-CGX resolution.
- 10) REBOOT, WHEN the machine comes back and you run 'sys:prefs/ScreenMode' again you can see if
V3 modes were added into the DisplayDataBase. If they did then you can use V3. If not
you can swap out the V3 monitor file for the V2 one in Devs:monitors
OTHER NOTES
Manual CV64 V3 install text
- CyberGraphX V3 config files have moved to different locations.
- env(arc):cybergraphics/#? to env(arc):CyberGraphX
- env(arc):cybergraphics/{gfxboard}/#? to system:prefs/presets/monitors
- cgxsystem.library to SYS:Libs
- env(arc):cybergraphics/CyberVisionMonitor to env(arc):CyberGraphX/CVision64Monitor
- Move the old monitor file out (in devs:monitors) and place a V3 version in devs:Monitors
- (If the Directories are not there you will need to make them.)
- If you wish to use CGXMode set the tooltype BOARD=CVision64.
- There are 2 new TOOLTYPES for Devs:Monitors/CVision64. These were ENV settings in V2.
- MEMCLOCK=xx (Default=50, Low=50, High=80) and BOOTLOGO=xx (0=No & 1=Yes)
- (Link to MEMCLOCK explanination from MEMCLOCK.)
CGXMode Catalogs
- If you make a locale catalog for CGXMode you can sent it to vgr@best.com
if you wish it to be added here for others to use. Please note that these catalogs only work with older
CVXModes. 2.6 from the r69f archive is the new one using Version 8 of the catalogs... the ones below
do not work with CGXMode 2.6. We are working on a new collection of catalogs for CGXMode 2.6
CyberGraphX V3 ViRGE 3D Demos
Other ViRGE programs can be found on the ViRGE Page
March 05, 1998 - New update to ViRGE demo,
CV3DDemos13.lha: WWW .
February 03, 1997 - Updates to the 3 3D ViRGE demos.
3D demos now test for the availability of 68881, work on z2 and have joypad
support added. Joypad support needs 3.1 lowlevel.library cyrrently.
For CyberVision3D/64 with an 881/882. The picture of the girl is the base for the demos.
Use the cursor keys/key pad to zoom/move the 3D cylinder. The 3D demos speed depends on how key repeat/delay is set
in sys:prefs/input. If repeat is slow, rotation will be too. The cv3ddemo1 uses hardware z-buffering and is therefore
slower than the other demos which don't use this.
The demo uses a 800x600x15bit screen. The 3D Cylinders objects are made up of 144 polygons.

1024x768x24Bits with the CV3D
With release V3 r60 the CV3D can now do 1024x768x24bits. If you try to
make this mode it can be a bit tricky. Sometimes the upper-half for the
screen is missing or has garbage. What I did to make this mode was to run
CGXMode 2.2 and clone the 800x600x24bit mode. Then edit this new mode.
I use the 'Monitor-64KHz' defaut config file with this data on a
Nanao F560iW:
Name: 24Bit 1024x768
Hidden: (Not Selected)
Type: 24Bit
ScanMode: Interlace
PixelClock: 46
Horizontal Timing Vertical Timing
-------------------------------------------------------
Resolution 1024 768
Sync Length 360 40
Pulse Offset 88 1
Pulse Length 120 0
Polarity Negative Negative
Frequency[kHz] 32.5144 40.2405
If you setup a screen in CGXMode and it looks good when you test
it but when you use it for WB or to display a picture and it has
alot of tearing or smearing you might try lowering the PixelClock
setting. 50-55 looked ok on the test screen for me but when used
to disply a picture had alot of tearing. Lowering it to 45-48 fixed
this.
Buster
There have been alot of question as to what are the number on the Buster chip so that
it can be check to what version is installed. Here is the buster section of 'AChips',
that I have been working on. It's a guide of all the Amiga custom chips. I should upload it to Aminet soon.
If you have a a chip I'm missing please let me know!

A True CGX V3 Story of The King and the Slaves
The slaves here working at the CGX mines have received many communications as to the stopping
of daily updates. As the wizard Bill Nye says 'Please consider the following':
King Frank of the great city of RTG, from the planet CGX, has taken a trip
to the planet Earth. His arranged marriage with the lovely Queen Ebba Blitz from the great
Earth Kingdom of Sweden will proceed as planed. As you know King Frank is a great lover of women
and likes to indulge these women, in this side of the galaxy, with gifts of Time. Therefore
CyberGraphX V3 updates will seem to slow down as he bends time and space for them.
There are still updates everyday but due to the side-effects of bending space the time, the delay
for people on Earth will seem to be a bigger gap. The people from planet CGX or Uranus will not be
effected by this. King Frank may visit the Earth countries of Switzerland and Djibouti while he is there.
If you see him you may shower him. My the force be with you. - Master Slave, Robert
Late Breaking news: King Frank's Warp core needed to have the crystal structure realigned and
stopped into the Tuvalu space-port & repair station. While between his silicon canyon trysts, he dropped
off CGX V3 41.2 - Release 69f. People of Earth can now find this update below. With a spasmodic puff, from
King Frank, his repaired Ebba class space ship left with expeditiousness speed to the other side of the galaxy.
We can all look foward to another pit stop from none other than the Great King Frank, soon.
As of August 25th, 1996 this is the 90,688th hit to this page.
