CyberVisionPPC

Permedia2
3D

for the CyberStorm PPC, CyberStorm MKIII and Blizzard 2604 Power Boards

The CyberVisionPPC uses the Texas Instruments TVP4020 second generation graphics controller chip. The TVP4020 incorporates graphics technology from 3D Labs. "The jointly-designed TVP4020 combines the best of 3Dlabs and TI to produce leading edge performance at an affordable price."

CyberVisionPPC FAQ - Q&A

Q: Does the CVPPC have internal MPEG or VideoOverlay support?
A: The permedia2 neither has internal mpg decoding support, nor video overlay. It does have internal 3D support.

Q: Does the CVPPC support interlace modes?
A: No. There is no hardware support for that, no "interlace bit" to enable it inthe permedia2. You should not use the predefined modes inthe config/setup files currently the driver does not filter them out. If you have a small monitor and are tryingto use interlace to get a bigger display this will not work and modes which have the interlace flag cause trouble.

Q: Why is the bandwidth from the CyberStormPPC to the CVPPC not 100MB/sec or 500Mb/sec?
A: The max. bandwidth of the 50Mhz 060 to access nocache memory page (gfxcards are mapped as non cache) is about 30MB because the 060 doesn´t do write combinding to output a burst.

Q: Will CyberGL be ported to the CVPPC?
A: No, it will be API compatible with the MAC QD3D RAVE layer. Most of the QD3D RAVE layer is already done for the permedia card since the p5 mac card has been out for a while.

Q: What is the difference between the .ppc and .040 versions of the cgxsystem.library? A: It is only mem alignment that is different. The .ppc version aligns bitmap data to cache line boundaries to avoid cache line problems between 68k<->ppc. It is only required when software does not take care of it. It's like a 'patch' for software that does not do cache handling properly, bitmap alignment can not be controlled by software.
