If you reckon you don't like Jungle, then you don't know what you're missing. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW..... A Brief History: Jungle is a totally British style of music which began life in London in 1991-2. At first, the development of the sampler brought us Hardcore dance music with it's breakbeats, sub-bass and vocals. The scene grew enormously and pirate radio stations, promoters and record labels sprung up from nowhere. Gradually, the music developed in two directions, known as "Jungle" and "4-Beat" Hardcore. Jungle dropped the "mickey mouse" vocals and the "boom-boom-boom-boom" beats and replaced it with some serious breakbeats and basslines bringing us to the scene as it is today. It is now spreading across the world and has reached Japan, Germany and Canada in a big way. It is quite simply the most innovative and progressive form of music around at the moment. THE TUNES..... These tunes were written on a 10MB 040 (40MHz) Amiga A1200 using a Technosound II Turbo sampler, Octamed 6 and Audiomaster 4. To play them you will need Workbench 3.0, at least 2MB of Ram and a newish version of Octamed, (Version 5, 6 or Sound-Studio, preferably V6). Directory Opus and OctamedPlayer (V6.04) will also play them BUT NOT ALWAYS CORRECTLY. I've tried to use Octamed SS but I keep getting high pitch glitches between samples during playback so I've given up. Has anyone else had this problem and if so, do you have a solution? I'm sure it isn't my accelerator and if it is, doesn't that defeat the object of Soundstudio? These tracks each took about three weeks to engineer and were written using 4 channels to give the best sound quality. All the samples are done by myself from CD or Vinyl- NOT CASSETTES, THEY'RE CRAP. The sample names normally give the artist or the tune which they were taken from. I've been writing tunes for 5 years now so if you're just starting, you'll need to persevere. The tunes are all ORIGINAL~ Jungle/Drum & Bass tracks. There are also some slower breakbeat tunes for those of you who want to give your ears a rest. ~ Lookout for a couple of remixes you might recognise aswell. MONO SOUND AND QUALITY..... During playback, you should hear the same sound coming from both the left and right speakers at all times. This is because the tunes are in MONO. If beats etc. keep swapping from speaker to speaker then you need to pay a visit to Tandy's and buy a "Y-adaptor" RCA lead. The Amiga has a good bass output so you'll need a decent system to hear the tunes as I intended. If you are using a portable TV as your sound source, bin it and get yourself a decent hi-fi & monitor. OCTAMED USERS..... To play the tunes, load up Octamed, choose "Open" from the "Project" menu and select the module you want to play. Double click it and once loaded press the song "Play" button. No adjustment to the tempo should be needed. Feel free to rip the samples off but don't rip me off, create your own style. AMIGA USERS..... Stick with the Amiga for as long as you can.
