Hello Brian E. Doe

On 25-Oct-00, Brian remarked about Re: ROM types (apparently-was: Re: AOS35: Re: Amiga CD Format):

Because, to further confuse everyone, they sometimes call it CMOS. Which
really is a method of making the transistors, not a specific chip.
(Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor). There are also PMOS and NMOS
varieties, as well as good old TTL chips (Transistor-Transistor Logic).

PC users really have a lot of trouble getting their heads around CMOS Logic,
which doesn't really remember anything. 'specially when the power is turned
off.

The NVRAM used for that purpose in the PC was probably CMOS based
non-volatile memory at one time, and got shortened to CMOS for some unknown
reason.

EAPROMS are heard of either, anymore. (Electrically Alterable PROM)

Regards

Michael
