No, I don't think I hate them for making lots of money. That's fine.
What I find ridiculous is their stupidity in first ignoring new distribution
channels, and when they find out about them, trying to showel water up the river.
What I find fully offensive is their position that they own all my freedom rights
when it comes to protecting their distribution monopoly.
Filtering against MP3s is not an issue just of school kids stealing Metallica songs
(that they get for free from television anyway - Napster etc. make most sense with
the stuff The Industry chooses to not even keep available in shops .. that's about
the most music).
In order to filter MP3s, you have to look at all data passing through the net, and
then let only those packets through that can prove they don't contain music, not
even encrypted one.
But once you have a filter, it can also filter out every sort of content. Even
messages saying "Warning! Apparently my net connection gets censored and most email
and news pages don't get through anymore!".
I don't want it, and if The Industry goes down the drain over that and the only
music I'll ever have will be my fingers tapping the desk and my own voice humming,
and maybe one or the other funky error beep rfom the computer, then be it so.
