Hmmmm. I agree in general with your posting, but I'd not recommend
COBOL. It's a real pain to write, or used to be, mainly because of
all the environment statements needed. Is COBOL still used? I had
to use it for a couple of years, around 1975, and I'd hope it's
been much improved since then :-) I see some COBOL files on Aminet
in 'dev/lang'.
BASIC is definitely a good one for beginners. There are many files
on Aminet in 'dev/basic', including for ACE and Blitz. And I'm told
that Visual Basic is useful and popular on PCs.
And on an Amiga I'd suggest Arexx which I find a delight to use;
though maybe about to become obsolescent - though I hope not.
There are several Arexx tutorials on Aminet.
