The 1GB drive says (if you listen to it spinning :) ) 5v & 520mA. What is
the maximum I can pull off the motherboard's IDE port?

If there was no jumper, would that default to being primary or secondary
drive? If so, I reckon I could change the jumper on the only drive with a
jumper to the other 2 pins and then that way, if "no jumper" means
"primary", then it may work?
And finally you said:
