Nah, I've had two harddrives in my A1200 before :)

Anyway, your problem could be:

a) Lack of power (probable...). Two harddrivers might draw too much
juice... (unless you power them directly from the psu)

b) Jumper settings are wrong, you *need* a master and slave. (although
this shouldn't stop the amiga from booting)

c) Your harddrives just don't like each other (could be, as they're
different types...)

Also, are you sure it won't boot? How long have you left it? (if
harddrives are conflicting, it might be like having no hd, so there'd
be a long-ish IDE wait)
