Except the maker, the model and what it's compatible with :)

NE2000 is a de facto standard for PC ethernet cards, like Hayes for
modems. If the Mediator comes with an ethernet driver, it will surely be
an NE2000 one.

You don't want it probing the network for info, because the network
isn't able to supply the info.

Put a Realtek card in there, it's what I use in mine and it works
flawlessly with Linux and Windows.
