You have white space within the table cells. Since they aren't wide
enough to pit it at the sides of the images, they arrange them
vertically.
Instead of
<tr><td>
<img src=...>
</td></tr>
use
<tr><td><img src=...></td></tr>
A CR or LF is considered whitespace and rendered exactly as one or more
space characters.
