| Subject: | URGENT: A3000 and Cybervision 64/3D crashes |
Hi All,
I'm back with yet another problem as a result of upgrading. (First
problem with A3000 as it happens.) I'm actually very annoyed -
but I'll keep my cool - at least on here ;)
Today, I received the AmigaOS 3.1 ROMs for my Amiga 3000,
allowing me to ditch the Superkickstart 1.5 ROMs at last. I fitted
them; and worked fine, and installed Workbench 3.1 from the 3.1
disks I got with my A500 3.1 ROM upgrade kit from 1995...
It all works fine. My A3000's spec. is:
A3000 Rev. 7.3
2MB Chip RAM
4MB Fast RAM on motherboard
Kickstart 3.1 (40.68)
Workbench 3.1
1.2GB SCSI Quantum Hard Disk
Super Buster rev. 11
Built in 68030/25MHz and 68882/25MHz
Double Density floppy
GoldenGate 386SX Bridgeboard
Budda IDE Controller
Cybervision 64/3D
Microbotics 8UP! Card with 4MB RAM (total of 10MB)
ISA VGA Graphics Card
Rev -04 SCSI chip
ECS Chipset
I think that is all of interest.
My problem:
In Early Startup, ShowConfig and the board.library's ShowBoards
program - the Cybervision 64/3D shows up fine. It has allocated
256MB of the Zorro III address space, so it is obviously switched
to Zorro III mode.
The fact the board shows up here means that the board must be
working - well so long as you don't want to actually use the
board.... ;(
My problem: I have installed CyberGraphX 3 for the CV64/3D card
onto the 3.1 system. (I only have the Workbench3.1 partition
atm) This all went well - I selected Zorro 3 Amiga (which it is),
and 68020/68030 system. (as I'm still using the 25MHz 68030
and 68882 built into the A3000 system)
So far, so good. When installation is completed, I leave the
monitor ( a Philips Brilliance 2010) plugged into the A3000's
Display Enhancer socket (not the CV64/3Ds). Reboot. Wait for
Workbench to appear.
Nothing. Black screen!
Is there something on the CV's output? Nothing.
So I booted with no startup-sequence, entered the line:
'set echo on'
in startup-sequence, rebooted, this will allow me to see which
command the Amiga halts at. Well, surprise surprise - it is when
it gets to the CVision3D monitor icon startup (or whatever the
monitor driver is called). Not only does the startup-sequence
stop; but the whole Amiga freezes up solid, requiring a three
fingured salute on the keyboard and a two finger salute at the
Amiga....... ;-)
It crashes everytime that driver is started.
Even if i move it out of DEVS:Monitors/ into SYS: and double click
on it in Workbench - it freezes the A3000.
SnoopDOS cannot save the log file, but i think the last thing i saw
was something to do with RAMLIB??
S**t!! :(
Ok, no problem says I - I'll try Picasso '96 2.0. Unarchive it, and
proceed to install. All going fine, install finishes. Reboot - it
freezes yet again, now using Picasso '96... :((
Can someone/anyone help me solve this problem? Is it a dodgy
Cybervison card? I removed the Microbotics 8UP! in case it was
a Zorro II address space problem. To no avail. I haven't tried the
CVision on its own yet in the A3000.
I have filled every Zorro slot (CV643D, GGate, Budda and 8UP!),
Both ISA slots (GGate, ISA VGA Card) and the Video slot access
is impeded by the CVision card.
I have 10MB in total. I do have KS3.1. The machine is otherwise
fine. The board does show up correctly in all showconfig alike
programmes.
I am using Setpatch 40.16 as I haven't copied 43.3b or whatever
over from my 1200T yet.
What is up - again?
