When I think about it this would explain a lot of things. What would I need to
do to create physical contact between the heatsink and the PPC chip? Would a
variation of the washer fix work? Or would it kill my machine?
Would it help to inset a small sheet of thin metal between them to conduct the
heat?

It is very difficult to get it to run with only 32 megs of RAM. Could this be
your problem?
