Greetings all...
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but here goes...
Can someone advise me (in plain English please) what purpose do AmiTCP and
AmiFTP and similar programs serve?
I often see them mentioned in MLists and a friend has all sorts of assigns
and extra lines in his user-startup/startup-sequence to run these programs
and complained about the problems he had setting them up.
When I asked the above question he couldn't give me an answer, just that
he'd been advised to have these running before he went online on the 'net.
I run Miami, YAM and iBrowse and get mail of all kinds from all around the
world. With iBrowse I go to http and ftp sites and never have any problems
connecting and D/Loading HTML files, LhA, LZX or DMS archives, nor do I
have any problems attaching files to my emails.
So... any easily understood answer would be appreciated.
I am having an on-going debate re: attaching files to emails.
Except for one person, in all the dozens of mails I've received with
attachments the attachment has been of base64 type and the YAM manual and
other texts I've read lead me to believe this is the norm these days as
the encoding is smaller, (ergo, faster in transmission) and more reliable
than uuencoding. The way I have my system set up (button in DOpus) it also
seems easier to decode base64 files.
Again, an easily understood answer on this subject would be of help.
