You can't set the brush to various degrees of transparency/translucency.
This is needed for building up colour gradually.

I agree. Many people like Photogenics much more than I do.

PPaint has lots of good features, especially for text and for making web
graphics. But I wouldn't use it for a big realistic painting, where you
really need to work in 24-bit even if you dither down the final result
to less.
Personally, having all of these programs, I would move an image from one
to another to do what each does best, but I tend to find the paint
section of ImageMaster to be the most powerful. This is no longer on
sale, however, and it needs a lot of RAM to work well.
Art Effect on PPC might be nice. I'm not clear whether the Phase5 G4
boards will run existing PPC applications. We shall see when they
arrive.
