I'd strongly recommend against doing this, although I did it for a
couple of days in an emergency. firstly the 486 fans are much thicker
than the PPC fans used by P5, there isn't room in the A4000 for one of
these to fit correctly, let alone an A1200.
More importantly, the PPC fans have a higher flow rate than most 486
fans. Farnell do a suitable fan, only slightly thicker than the PPC fan
and a higher flow rate.
However, I don't think this is what Stephen was asking. If he just wants
to power the original fan from elsewhere, that's fine. Any standard 5V
supply will do, I took mine from a drive power connector.
