FYI - here`s a reply that I received concerning Aminet:

There isn't much more that I can tell you. We're guests at a site
that is administered by others. Yes, the main site has been hacked
and is currently being reinstalled from scratch, that's about all
I know. FTP service has been restored but HTTP and NFS (which we
need to add new files) has not. All we can do is wait.
