Hello Philip,
As the author of the BoXer support site ive been in contact with all
parties concerned with PPC for the BoXer for some time now. Originally
there
were due to be several PPC addon cards for the BoXer. 1 from the big
trio
Blittersoft/Access/Anti Gravity which was to be a simple low end card
and
the other to be from Phase5 with all the works.
Now with Phase5 dumping G3 in favour to G4 (Better yet) i have no idea
where
things stand but I have made recent emails to all concerned parties but
i do
hope to have some info soon. With lots of luck.
As to pricing remember one thing. You wont be able to use any of the
existing cards on offer. The BoXer will be a smaller and simpler card
which
will make it much much cheaper. But on the flip side if only small
numbers
are manufactured as compared to the larger amts of normal PPC addon
cards
for other Amigas the price may end up being a little higher than
expected.
It all comes down to the law of supply and demand and if the BoXer
systems
sell well then there will be more PPC cards manufactured and hopefully a
lower price.
Generally speaking though the PPC card for the BoXer will be much
smaller
and simpler due to the fact a card with PPC socket and caching need be
provided. The card will not need any of the addons like PCI or Mini PCI
or
SCSI or USB or whatever like all the other ones to come.
So the less complex - the less expensive and quicker to design and
manufacture. But i do hope to see several cards on
offer in the near future. A simple G3 3xx and a G4 from P5 would be
nice.
With options for USB would be better.
Id say we will know allot more in November when the BoXer ships
(aparantly)
around the time when it will be displayed at the German Cologne Show.
