All correct.

The story goes that the cases were in fact intended for a line of PC
clones. But I suspect that this is one of those stories that we'd vilify
Commodore for either way.
As it stands, we say "What a stupid decision."
But in an alternate universe, we'd see...
"God, Commodore was so stupid about money. There it was, 1993 and
Commodore was already on the ropes financially, and they had HUNDREDS OF
THOUSANDS of PC cases sitting around doing NOTHING, but they went out and
bought completely different cases! Were they suicidal or just morons?"
The 4000 case was sub-optimal, there's no getting around it, but sometimes
Commodore was damned either way.
