1. INTRODUCTION

Power Saver for Windows 95 gives you better control over the
power usage of your computer display. With Power Saver, you can
quickly and easily put your display into a low power mode, and
let Power Saver put the display into even lower power modes as
your system sits idle. The touch of a key or a twitch of the
mouse will restore your system to its normal powered-on
condition, ready for use.

Power Saver requires a display adapter and monitor that conform
to the VESA DPMS hardware and software interface standards. Most
display adapters and computer displays that conform to the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency "Energy Star" program should be
compatible with Power Saver.

2. READ THIS!

Power Saver uses documented software interfaces of your
computer's existing display adapter (video BIOS) to control your
display's power usage. Power Saver does not directly manipulate
the display adapter hardware, nor does it use any undocumented or
reverse engineered techniques. Power Saver's author cannot be
held responsible or liable for any damages or data loss that may
occur when Power Saver uses your existing display adapter BIOS
routines to change display power usage levels.

3. DISCLAIMER

Power Saver is supplied as is. Jim Mathews, the author, disclaims
all warranties, expressed or implied, including, without
limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for
any purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct
or consequential, which may result from the use of Power Saver.

4. LICENSE AND REGISTRATION

Power Saver for Windows 95 is not public domain software and it
is not free software. Power Saver is provided without cost
strictly for evaluation purposes. If you like Power Saver and
wish to use it after a 30 day evaluation period, you must
register your copy of the program and pay a one-time U.S. $ 10.00
per-copy registration fee. The payment of the registration fee
will license the use of one copy of the software on one computer
at one time.

You are encouraged to share Power Saver with friends and
colleagues, but only in its original PWRSAVER.ZIP archive file
format, and without modifications or additions of any kind.

No remuneration of any kind may be charged by any individual or
organization distributing this software without the express
written consent of the author. This restriction does not apply
to organizations that distribute software (and/or "shareware")
collections for "nominal" fees provided buyers are clearly
informed they have not satisfied the registration requirement
by "purchasing" the collection.

Site licensing information is available upon request.

For your convenience, a registration form is provided in the
"REGISTER.TXT" file.

5. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Power Saver for Windows 95 is distributed in a single compressed
archive file named "PWRSAVER.ZIP". To install Power Saver:

   1. Create a folder to hold the Power Saver files prior to
installation. You can right-click on your Windows desktop
and select "New / Folder" from the pop-up menu to easily
create the folder. Give the folder any name you like, but
      "PwrSaver" is short and descriptive.

   2. Use a ZIP decompression utility to extract all the files in
the "PWRSAVER.ZIP" file to the folder you just created.

   3. Double click the folder's icon to open it. Locate the
"PwrSaver.inf" file. Depending on your Windows 95 "View"
options, the ".inf" file extension may or may not be
visible. In either case, the file should appear as a
notepad with a small yellow gear.

   4. Right-click on the "PwrSaver.inf" file and choose "Install"
      from the pop-up menu.

   5. Save a copy of the "PWRSAVER.ZIP" file in a different
folder for future use. You should also print and/or save
      the "README.TXT", "REGISTER.TXT", and "PwrSaver.doc" files.

   6. After installation is complete, you can delete the new
folder and its contents. Make sure you've saved a copy of
      "PWRSAVER.ZIP" first.

During the installation procedure, you may see a message
indicating your computer does not have the VESA DPMS support
necessary to conserve power. If you do see this message, Power
Saver will not be able to help you save power. In this case, you
can easily remove Power Saver from your system by using the
Windows 95 Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" function.

The installation procedure adds Power Saver to your Windows 95
"Start / Programs / StartUp" menu so Power Saver is automatically
loaded every time you start Windows.

6. POWER SAVER REMOVAL

Power Saver can be easily removed from your system using the
Windows 95 Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" function. To
remove Power Saver:

   1. If Power Saver is currently running, stop it by left-
clicking on the Power Saver icon in the Windows 95 Taskbar
and selecting "Exit Power Saver" from the pop-up menu.

   2. Open the Control Panel by clicking the Windows 95 "Start"
button and selecting the "Settings" and then the "Control
      Panel" menu items.

   3. Double-click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.

   4. Locate and select the "Power Saver for Windows 95 (remove)"
line in the list of programs that can be removed.

   5. Click the "Add/Remove..." button.

If you wish to remove Power Saver manually, delete the
"PwrSaver.exe" file from the Windows directory, and the
"PSDLL_16.DLL", "PSDLL_95.DLL", and "PwrSaver Screen Saver.scr"
files from the Windows System directory. You should also delete
the "Power Saver" shortcut from the Windows 95 StartUp menu.
Power Saver keeps all its settings in the registry under the
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Mathews/PwrSaver" key. You can
delete this key with the Windows 95 Regedit utility.
