Eternal music

Songs that stay with you... always and forever. That was the key to the success of Britain's brightest girl-group, a quartet from South London comprising sisters Easther and Vernie Bennett, and best friends Kéllé Bryan and Louise Nurding.

Eternal's debut single, Stay, was an instant hit and sent the girls straight to the top of world of pop stardom! They had multi-platinum success with their album, Always & Forever, six UK Top 20 hit singles, and toured all over the world.

To say Louise was considered the best-looking member of Eternal is probably an understatement... her startling looks won her the attention of male music fans everywhere! Despite some controversy due to Louise being the only white member of the group, it's a safe bet that she had some influence on their enormous success.

An inevitable split?

To be perfectly honest, I wasn't surprised when it was announced in July 1995 that Louise was to leave Eternal and go solo. I don't know why - I certainly didn't think it would happen so soon. Perhaps it was simply because so much attention was focused on her that she didn't seem to fit in so well anymore...

The usual reasons were cited - musical differences, Louise wanted to "explore different areas" etc. The news was overshadowed somewhat by news that Robbie Williams was leaving his band, Take That, but that's probably not a bad thing. The two singers were even rumoured to be doing a duet, which was nothing more than media speculation of course.

Many people's reaction has been 'so they've kicked the white girl out', which is a downright thoughtless and ignorant interpretation of events. Said Kéllé in an interview with Smash Hits: "I don't see her as a white girl, she's Lu. Race and colour was never an issue with Eternal."

A bright future

Although no longer with Eternal, Louise still shares the same management, First Avenue, and record label, EMI. Both have shown a commitment to Louise and are working hard to ensure the success of her forthcoming Naked album.
