President Clinton Convenes White House Leadership Conference
on Youth, Drug Abuse, and Violence -- March 7, 1996

(Washington, D.C.) --- President Clinton will convene a White House
Leadership Conference on Youth, Drug Use, and Violence on Thursday, March
7, 1996. The conference will be held at Eleanor Roosevelt High School,
7601 Hanover Parkway, Greenbelt, Maryland from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
(EST). The conference can be viewed LIVE via the Internet.
President Clinton, Vice President Gore and the new National Drug Policy
Director, General Barry McCaffrey (Ret.), will participate in the plenary
session at 11:00 a.m. After their remarks, they will be joined by youth
representatives and others in a discussion about the problems of youth
drug use and violence. Their addresses and the conversation with the
young people will be televised via satellite to over twenty cities around
the country who will also be conducting a concurrent conference on youth
drug use and violence.
DIGEX, an Internet Service Provider, will broadcast the plenary session
of the Leadership Conference live through an "Internet cybercast" from
11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. EST. A "cyberlink" to the Conference will be
available through the White House Home Page under the "What's New"
category (http://www.whitehouse.gov).
Before you can view the conference through the Internet, you must load
your system with the appropriate viewing tools. For more information on
the required software, point your web browser to the White House Home Page.
How it works
The on-site video production crew will provide a live feed of the
conference to the primary ISP-TV provider. The primary ISP-TV provider
will then digitize the feed and transmit the digital signal to affiliate
reflectors located throughout the world. For more information about

The conference audio will also be cybercast using RealAudio (tm)
technology from Progressive Networks. The RealAudio Player software can
be obtained from the World Wide Web URL
http://www.realaudio.com/products/ra2.0. Once you have the player, go to
URL http://www.digex.net to listen to the conference. Even dial-up
customers with 14.4 kbps or 28.8 kbps connections can use RealAudio software.
