SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENTS - NOV. 1995 - Newsletter #4

From Policymaking to Implementation

Message from the Executive Director

President's Council Executive Director, Molly Harriss Olson

The President's Council on Sustainable Development is rapidly approaching completion of its national sustainable development action strategy, thanks to all the hard work of Council members, liaisons, staff, and task force members around the country. These have been exciting times, and we have witnessed the birth of sustainable development in action in communities from Seattle to Chicago, Chattanooga to San Francisco, and places in between.

We anticipate delivery of the report to President Clinton in January 1996. But this series of recommendations is not the final destination in our quest for a sustainable United States. The Council report is simply providing a starting point from which each and every business, organization, and citizen can work toward a higher quality of life and better opportunities for all members of society. This national sustainable development action strategy marks the beginning of a journey. It will take us where we need to go only if we are committed to working together for the benefit of future generations.

Thanks to all of you whose dedicated efforts are helping to make this national strategy happen. I know we all look forward to working together to implement its important vision.
