It balances the budget in seven years, gives working Americans a modest tax cut -- and protects Medicare, Medicaid, education, and the environment.
Certified by Congressional economists. The Congressional Budget Office has certified, and Republicans agree, that the President's plan will eliminate the deficit and balance the budget in seven years.
Could agree on a balanced budget tomorrow. The President has pointed the way to common ground. With his plan, Democrats and Republicans have already agreed on enough cuts to balance the budget in seven years and give working Americans a modest tax cut.
So what's the problem? Republicans don't like the President's plan because they want to cut Medicare, Medicaid, education, and the environment even more than is necessary to balance the budget.
1) They don't believe we have a responsibility to look out for senior citizens, educate our children, and protect our environment. The President's plan balances the budget without walking away from our basic values.

Looking forward. President Clinton's first priority is to balance the budget in a way that is consistent with our values. Balancing the budget is the first of many of America's challenges as we move into the future.
