The fascinating world of natural history arrives at Cardiff this month when the Travelling Discovery Centre, part of London's famous Natural History Museum, takes up temporary residence jointly at Techniquest and the Welsh Industrial & Maritime Museum, Cardiff Bay, from Thursday 23 May until Sunday 7 July 1996.
Children from Mount Stuart School, Cardiff, will be the first visitors to the Travelling Discovery Centre when they assist Helen Willetts from BBC Wales weather department, at the opening.
Sponsored by Marks & Spencer, the Travelling Discovery Centre gives youngsters aged 7-11 a chance to get closer to museum exhibits which would usually be seen in glass cases. With the emphasis most definitely "hands on", children can feel a three metre long python skin, hold a prickly hedgehog, make a travelling seed or find out more about fossils. Only the really brave will accept the challenge of the "feely box", where mystery objects are hidden behind doors and identification is by touch only!
Opening times: Monday - Friday 9.30 - 4.30 (priority to school groups) and Saturday - Sunday 10.30 - 5.00 pm.
Admission: Free to the Travelling Discovery Centre.
