Celebrating National Science Week at The Natural History Museum
- Friday 15 to Friday 22 March 1996 -
The focus is on fun at The Natural History Museum when visitors can find out about these investigations and many more as the Museum celebrates the UK's third National Week of Science, Engineering and Technology, from Friday 15 to 22 March 1996.
A programme of family events invites visitors to touch fossils from the Ice Age, smell tropical fruits and see close-up with microscopes the Museum's research into the natural world. Each day many of the Museum's 300 scientists will be out in the galleries to tell visitors at first-hand how they work to solve problems in science.
The packed programme has something for everyone, including:- tours behind the scenes to see 55,000 flies and fleas (Mon 18), the collections of fish specimens stored in alcohol (Sat 16) or the botanical herbarium (Sat 16); workshops to go behind the TV camera with the producer of the BBC TV's new blockbuster series "Alien Empire" (Sun 17 & Mon 18); encounters with two 'time-travelling' scientists, Charles Darwin (Fri 15, Tues 19, Wed 20 & Thurs 21) and Victorian fossil collector, Mary Anning (Fri 15, Sat 16 & Tues 19); the "Eco-challenge" where children can use giant foam triangles to explore and create food webs, the energy pathways linking plants and animals within habitats (everyday).
All events are free with a valid Museum ticket.
The Natural History Museum is open Monday to Saturday 10am - 5.50pm & Sunday 11am - 5.50pm.
