Discovery Centre

The Discovery Centre is an interactive gallery specifically designed for children in years 3-6. Experienced explainers encourage children of all abilities to investigate hands-on activities and explore natural objects. Children with special needs are welcome.

Activity sheets

Our activity sheets are written to complement the National Curriculum and to support learning in the Museum's exhibitions. There is a range of activity sheets suitable for pupils aged 3 to 18. Content and presentation vary according to the age range.

Tours

Teachers with pupils in years 2-6 can book an interactive guided tour. Our teaching auxiliaries encourage children to make close observations of the variety of objects on display. Choose from an introductory tour about the Museum or a themed tour on mammals, fossils or rocks. A tour of our Wildlife Garden will be available from March 1996.

The Teachers' Centre can help teachers who are planning a visit to the Museum, or who need advice on teaching earth and life sciences.

We produce exhibition guides to help you plan and make the most of your visit to the Museum. Our teaching packs contain background information, and suggestions for classroom and museum activities.

Advance booking

To book visits for UK schools and colleges, telephone our Bookings Office on 0171 938 9090, Monday to Friday 09.00-16.30 during term. Free admission for school groups is available on weekdays during our local term time. You should book as early as possible, as free admission places are limited.
