Farewell to Adelaide

The Nokia Tyrrell Yamaha team is looking forward to going to Adelaide for 
the traditional end of season Grand Prix of the Formula One World 
Championship. This year's event will be special as it will be the tenth and 
last time Adelaide welcomes the Australian Grand Prix before the race moves 
to Melbourne where the next season will start on 10 March 1996. The team 
personnel have always enjoyed coming to the South Australian city and will 
enjoy this last time more than ever.

On his return from the Japanese Grand Prix, Harvey Postlethwaite, Managing 
Director - Engineering, said: "Unfortunately, I'm never able to attend this 
Grand Prix as I have to be in England working on next year's car. This year 
is no exception. I'm sure the team will enjoy every moment of this very 
special race. The 023 car is reliable and, on a circuit where you are not 
allowed any mistakes, we could score more points. It would be a fantastic 
way to conclude a difficult season and a good start to our winter 
programme."

Mika Salo is also delighted to be back in Adelaide and said: "I really 
enjoyed Adelaide last year and I am looking forward to it again this year. I 
like the city and the people but I don't enjoy the circuit very much! There 
are too many 90 degree corners and if it rains it's impossible to drive. I 
had a good Japanese Grand Prix and it was rewarding to score another point 
for the team. Adelaide can also be tricky and who knows..."

Ukyo Katayama was less lucky for his home Grand Prix and said: "I have been 
working hard with my physiotherapist on my left thumb and I should be fit 
again for Australia. I enjoy coming to Adelaide and like the circuit but it 
will be strange to be there for the last time. Last year I was quick in each 
practice session but in qualifying I had trouble with the gearbox on Friday 
and it rained on Saturday! I am looking forward to ending the season on a 
high note."

Mike Gascoyne, Deputy Technical Director commented: "Adelaide is one of the 
best street circuits of the season. It's challenging and you are not allowed 
any mistakes because the walls are so close. It's a wide street circuit 
which means you can overtake. Cars will be running maximum down force 
configuration and traction will be crucial."

Melbourne circuit will host next tear's Australian Grand Prix on 10 March 
1996. Mike Gascoyne said: "It's difficult to describe a circuit without 
having been there physically or to prepare a lap simulation without knowing 
the nature of the track, the tyres being used, the kerbs or the cambers on 
the circuit. It seems to be very demanding for the drivers, with few long 
straights. And it looks like there will be very few places for them to rest, 
with fairly flowing corners. It will be difficult to overtake. It looks like 
an Adelaide - a good street circuit."

The Australian Grand Prix will be held on the 3.780 km / 2.349 mile street 
circuit in the city of Adelaide. The 81 lap, 306.180 km / 190.292 mile race 
will start at 14.00 hours local time on Sunday 12 November and is expected 
to last 1 hour 50 minutes.
