NASCAR Busch Grand National
North Carolina Motor Speedway
October 21, 1995
Track Length 1.017 mile
Todd Bodine stole won today. With Busch Series Champion Johnny Benson and
Mike Wallace battling door-to-door coming out of turn four in a classic
finish Bodine swung low and finished 6 inches ahead of Wallace, who was
only a couple of inches ahead of Benson. Bodine had been running mid-pack
all day until the last caution. He stormed through the field during the
last 15 laps to be in a position for the win and he didn't waste the
opportunity.
Benson clinched the championship after Chad Little, second in the points
hunt, was caught up in an accident with Brian Donnally on lap 132.
Benson becomes the Busch driver to win the Rookie of the Year title and the
Busch Series Championship in consecutive years.
Mark Martin, as he has done in the Busch and Winston Cup series in
October, dominated for two-thirds of the AC DELCO 200 before fading,
opening the door for Benson, Wallace, Jeff Green, Terry Labonte and Dale
Jarrett to battle for the lead. That is until Green ran into Doug Heveron,
ending his day along with Labonte and Jarrett.
This opened the door again for Martin with 15 laps remaining, but he didn't
have anything for the leaders. The bumping between Benson and Wallace
slowed them enough for Bodine's momentum to carry him to victory.
In race marred with some heavy contact with the NCMS walls, Jimmy Spencer
suffered a fractured shoulder blade during his crash on lap 77. He plans
on starting the AC DELCO 400 Sunday.
AC DELCO 200 Provisional Finishing Results.
