Top Qualifying
15 - Dario Franchitti "This was the best lap of my life. I did a good
job with this lap and my crew did a fantastic job to give me a car
capable to do a lap time like this. Moments like this make me think
about Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart."
9 - Manuel Reuter "May be, the success is coming together with my aching
back. This was a good lap, but it wasn't perfect, as I had a slight
understeer which slowed me down twice. But, to be honest, I don't
know, if a had been able to do Dario's time without the understeer.
Nevertheless, tomorrow, in front of more than 100.000 people, Reuter
won't have any problems with his back."
1 - Klaus Ludwig "This was a good lap without any mistakes. It's a pity
that it wasn't good enough for more than third position. But on the
other hand you got to think about where we came from: So I think it's
great, to have the possibility to be disappointed by a third position."
8 - Nicola Larini "This was an improvement and a good lap, although I
made a mistake in the stadium. Tomorrow during the race I'm going to do
my laps and watch the other drivers."
7 - Alessandro Nannini "This wasn't a perfect lap and I wasn't surprised
loosing first position shortly afterwards. Mercedes just got a better
top speed on the long straights, but we are rather competitive on the
rest of the track."
3 - J”rg van Ommen "I'm really pleased now. Finally I seem to be back on
the level I'm expecting myself to be on. I made two little mistakes in
turn one and entering the first chicane, but nothing too important. Now
I can concentrate on driving a good race tomorrow and trying to keep my
second position in the championship."
4 - Jan Magnussen "I made a mistake in the second chicane. So I lost my
momentum and was too slow on the straight. The rest of the lap was okay
and I'm looking forward to the races."
14 - Bernd Schneider "This was all I could do, there was no chance of
being faster. Opel is really very strong. As well it's difficult to go
over the curbs as we did last year, so I'm not surprised that most of
the lap times are slower than they were last year."
6 - Kurt Thiim "I used less wing than ever before, but it didn't give me
the advantage I had hoped for. The lap was okay, there was only a little
drift entering the start-finish straight."
10 - Yannick Dalmas "My lap was okay. I think, I lost most of the
time in the third chicane. There is a good chance for an Opel victory
tomorrow, and I'd like to achieve a top five placement or even more if
possible. But this of course depends on how the race is going."
20 - JJ Lehto "I made a mistake in the third chicane . Without this
mistake a high 2.08...time would have been possible. The rest of the lap
was okay, I was at the same speed as on my best laps before."
5 - Alexander Grau "I didn't make a special mistake, but I was too
careful all over the lap. I'm sure, that I could have done a better lap
otherwise. But it's too late now to be annoyed."
22 - Uwe Alzen "My lap started with a little swerve directly behind the
start and finish line. At first I had an understeer which changed to an
oversteer. Afterwards I just could do my best to finish this lap as fast
as possible in spite of this mistake."
26 - Giancarlo Fisichella "This was my best lap of the weekend, as I
had a lot of brake problems and gearbox failures during all the other
sessions. It's a pity, that the lap wasn't good enough for a top ten
position in the stating grid."
19 - Michael Bartels "There was definitely no chance to go faster. I
think, the car has reached its limit. Nevertheless I'll do everything to
achieve good results tomorrow."
