Weather: Warm with sunshine and light winds

Nicola Larini (Alfa Romeo) 1st: "I drove the same good lap as I did
yesterday in testing but the main difference with the track is that
there is much more grip today. The car is very consistent in its
handling and I think we are in a strong position." Both Martini Racing
cars have reverted to
1994 specification sequential gearboxes for the Magny Cours race.

Alessandro Nannini (Alfa Romeo) 2nd: "The car is running well. When I
saw Franchitti's time I felt sure that it was possible to beat it. We'll
just have to try to repeat the showing tomorrow."

Dario Franchitti (Mercedes) 3rd: "We made a slight change to the set-up
after this morning and it seems to have worked. I'm a little surprised
how fast we were able to go. Concerning my championship hopes, as I said
In Estoril, there's still time to kidnap Bernd Schneider."

Bernd Schneider (Mercedes) 4th: "The set-up was okay for one lap but we
need to make some changes to the car. After the de-briefing we'll know
exactly what it is that we need to alter."

Manuel Reuter (Opel) 5th: "I'm quite happy with my time but nevertheless
we still need to work. I've had some massage on my back and feel much
better but I really don't know if I can complete two races on Sunday..."

Jan Magnussen (Mercedes) 6th: "My first lap should have been my best but
I wasn't sure about the set-up on the car so I went out later and did
another one."

Yannick Dalmas (Opel) 7th: "We changed the set-up from yesterday to
today but it was a big mistake. We changed it back for qualifying and
got this reward. The team has worked really hard for the last few weeks
to give us this sort of performance."

Stefano Modena (Alfa Romeo) 8th: "I'm not delighted but we have made
some progress."

Klaus Ludwig (Opel) 9th: "I just went out and did a safety lap to make
sure that I was guaranteed a place in the first 15. Manuel Reuter's time
is a far better indication of the car's potential and my aim is a top
six place tomorrow."

Gabriele Tarquini (Alfa Romeo) 11th: "I think this is just as fast as
this car can go and I'm in the top 15, which is important. I'm enjoying
the ITC very much but, after driving for Tyrrell at the Nurburgring last
week it took me a couple of laps to become reacquainted with this style
of driving."

Keke Rosberg (Opel) 14th: "I'm one second faster than this morning so I
should be happy - but I'm not really satisfied."

JJ Lehto (Opel) 15th: "I thought I would be in the top eight but I think
we chose the wrong tyres - there was hardly any grip at all."
