Ukyo to Rest - Gabriele Tarquini to Race

Following his accident at the Portuguese Grand Prix on Sunday, Ukyo Katayama 
has been advised to rest and will not take part in this weekend's European 
Grand Prix. The team's officially nominated reserve and test driver, Italian 
Gabriele Tarquini will take his place.

Said Tada Kuwabara, Ukyo's manager, from Lisbon (Portugal) today: "Ukyo is 
naturally very keen to drive but the advice we have is that he should rest 
in order to be fully well for his 'home' events - the all important Grand 
Prix in Japan. We have made the decision with the team that he will miss 
this weekend's race although he does hope perhaps to spectate at the 
circuit."

The man taking over Tyrrell No 3 is a veteran of 37 Grand Prix races. 
Tarquini last tested for the team at Silverstone in August. A highly popular 
BTCC champion in 1994, Gabriele is a race winner for Alfa Romeo in Italy 
this year.

In addition to driving in 'Super Touring' Gabriele has been piloting works 
Alfa Romeo cars in the high-tech world of the DTM and ITC series for Class 1 
cars. "I am very happy to return to Formula 1 once again," commented 
Tarquini, "but it's a shame it must be in these unfortunate circumstances. I 
wish Ukyo a full recovery and hope to do well in car No 3.

"About a month ago I was racing DTM at the Nurburgring and perhaps I am more 
familiar with the track than most other F1 drivers. I know that Mika Salo 
has raced a Porsche there this year, so let's hope this gives the Tyrrell 
team an advantage!"
