Portuguese Grand Prix Final Qualifying
Mika Salo and Ukyo Katayama will start tomorrow's Portuguese Grand Prix from
the 8th row. Both drivers improved their lap times from the first qualifying
session. Mika recorded 1 min 23.936 sec and Ukyo 1 min 24.287.
Mika Salo: "I am happier today with the balance of the car but we need to
find more grip and more speed. My flying lap with the last set of tyres
would have been my best lap but I pushed a bit too much and nearly lost the
car."
Ukyo Katayama: "I am very disappointed to lose two positions on the grid.
The car feels better but I still set slower times if I push the car to the
limit. Now I will concentrate on finishing with a strong and reliable race."
Harvey Postlethwaite, Managing Director - Engineering: "Obviously, we are
not satisfied with our grid positions. Both Mika and Ukyo did not improve
their times on their last set of tyres. We will work on a good race balance
and hope for a reliable finish to build on our points scored in Monza."
Yoshiaki Takeda, Yamaha F1 Project Manager: "Ukyo had a fresh engine today
while Mika used his new engine from yesterday. Both ran without problems. We
will be working for both cars to finish tomorrow's race to add our points
and to boost our confidence for the last four races including the two in
Japan."
