September 9, 1995 Italian Grand Prix - Final Qualifying

Mika Salo and Ukyo Katayama will start tomorrow's Italian Grand Prix from the 8th and 9th rows. Mika set the 16th time (1 min 29.028 sec) and Ukyo the 17th (1 min 29.287 sec).

Mika Salo: "I am not happy with our performance today. We made some progress in practice this morning but it looks like the hot weather affects us more than the others. I could not find any grip this afternoon. The balance is fine, I am driving as hard as I can, but it seems it's not enough." Ukyo Katayama: "My last flying lap was the quickest but I went off in the Lesmos and had to go back to the pits. We improved the balance but I still had understeer."

Harvey Postlethwaite, Managing Director - Engineering: "We are frustrated to have slipped back from where we were this morning in practice and yesterday in first qualifying. Mika was happy with the balance of the car this morning and set a better time (1 min 28.471 sec) on used tyres. Unfortunately he was unable to repeat that. Ukyo did a good job after the troubles he had yesterday. We need to find a good race balance and hope for two strong finishes."

Mr Takeda, Yamaha F1 Project Manager: "Today's qualifying was very exciting as the track was getting quicker and quicker as more rubber was laid down. We have been unable to improve yesterday's qualifying which is frustrating but we have had no engine problems. We must hope for a good race tomorrow."
