OFFICIAL NEWS FROM TOCA
David Leslie, who finished second in yesterday's (Monday) round 20 of the Auto
Trader RAC British Touring Car Championship has been dropped down the results
following a post-race time penalty imposed by Pierre Aumonier, TOCA's permanent
Clerk of the Course.
The Honda driver was adjudged to have gained an unfair advantage when clashing
with rival Michael Briggs (Vauxhall Cavalier) in a last lap battle for second
position and subsequently was given a 10-second penalty which drops him down
the official results. Leslie's demotion moves Patrick Watts up into second -
his best ever BTCC result and equalling Peugeot's best ever BTCC finish - and
Robb Gravett up to third, the first time a private entry Total Cup competitor
has ever finished on the podium.
Honda - which had been savouring its best-yet BTCC placing - appealed against
Leslie's time penalty but the Stewards of Meeting upheld the Clerk of the
Course's decision. It is now expected that the Honda team may seek a further
hearing on the matter through an RACMSA Tribunal.
