The box score alone wouldn't do justice to the scenario
for round 10 of the Barber/Dodge Pro Series, held August 20
at New Hampshire International Speedway, so I've included
an abridged version of Rick Roso's race report which I
hope you'll find informative.
 
Welcome Back (Ahem), Jerry
 
Connecticut's Jerry Nadeau plays the role of oval-track
mercenary to perfection. The part-time NASCAR Busch Grand
National rookie competed in the open-wheel Barber Pro
Series in 1993 and 94 and in both years he handily won
the only oval track race on the series schedule, at New
Hampshire International Speedway's one mile bowl.
 
The week before this year's race somebody put a bug in
Jerry's ear --"You could win the Barber Pro race at NHIS,
again". The light went on, Nadeac called his sponsors,
Bussmann Fuse, aka Buss Fuses, and after looking at his
record they agreed to pony up the entry fee. The check
was Fedx'd, and arrived Thursday of race week.
 
The story from that point on was short and sweet, Nadeau
took the pole in qualifying, led from the start, and
drove to a convincing win.
 
Bang-bang just like that. Spend $8000, win $10,500, and
give Buss Fuses some prominent ESPN air time -- tape
delay will be Friday Sept 15at 12:30 a.m.
 
Keep in mind that Nadeau had never driven the Pro series
cars since they were converted from SAAB turbos to
3.5 liter Dodge V6 engines, and even passed on the
Thursday test day. Clearly the guy is a master on the
ovals.
 
The championship chase, forthe $100,000 NGK Spark
Plug Career Enhancement Award also tightened up
at NHIS -- Geoff Boss moved back into the points
lead over Barry Waddell, with South African
Jaki Scheckter close behind. In addition, by
finishing second Tim Moser gave himself at least
a mathmatical chance at the crown. Next race in
series, round 11 of 12, is Sept 10 at Texas
World Speedway.
