Third free practice session
3 - Jorg van Ommen
DTM's "Marathon Man" was the fastest of the Mercedes "Seniors" and
felt quite confident after the session: "Still I got some problems, as
my car doesn't stay as calm as I'd like it to while braking. But this
isn't very important and besides of this problem I'm feeling really
comfortable in the car and I think it will be rather competitive."
1- Klaus Ludwig
The reigning champion was the fastest of the six Opel drivers in this
session but only 8-fastest of the grid and wasn't very delighted: "It's
a pity, that we couldn't finish our Friday program yesterday and had to
do some of it today. But nevertheless I wouldn't be too unhappy with
my car which seems to be rather quick. If there wouldn't be the big
progress of Mercedes. I had never expected them to drive 1:38-times
and I'm totally sure, that I won't be able to do a lap as fast as this
afternoon."
8 - Nicola Larini
DTM's champion of 1993 was nineth altogether and the third fastes of the
Alfa drivers. "I really don't know what to think about this session. It
wasn't bad and it wasn't good. But there is a problem we got to change:
We haven't got enough topspeed."
9 - Manuel Reuter
Reuter wasn't as fast as Friday but wasn't worried at all. "we did a
lot of testing for the race on used tyres with a full tank. And when
we wanted to test the new tyres, I had some technical problems like
a defect catalytic converter on the one hand and lots of traffic on
the other. But I'm not worried about the Mercedes times. If I could
do a 1:39.29 in the heat of Friday afternoon, why shouldn't a 1:38
time have been possible for me today. So I'm really optimistic for Top
Qualifying."
14 - Bernd Schneider
The leader didn't go for a fast lap in this session, but did work on a
race set-up. "I did a long run and I'm very satisfied by it's result. My
car has got a very good balance now. My team mate instead did work for
Top Qualifying and I hope, that I'll succeed in using his set-up this
afternoon."
20 - JJ Lehto
For the first time since he is driving the '95 Calibra Lehto was happy
with his car: "First of all: Regarding all the problems of yesterday,
this is the first time that I really could work on the set-up, as I
could do only four laps yesterday. But today's free practice session was
a good one. Finally I can go the pace of the others. I think now my car
is competitive. A 1:40.00 would have been possible in this session and I
hope, this weekend will bring some good results."
