KUHLMAN TOPS BERLIN ICEMAN FIELD

MARNE,MI (8/19)  Howell, MI driver Dave Kuhlman survived a lap 1 incident
to win the 100 lap ICEMAN Super Car Series at the historic Berlin Raceway
Saturday night.  The event got off to a terrible start as rookie driver
Harold Fair, Jr. starting in the second row got sideways coming down the
front stretch for the green flag.  What initially looked to be a minor
incident, turned into a major incident as the entire inside row piled into
one another.  ARTGO veteran Bob Blount making his first ever ICEMAN
appearance became airborne at one point eventually flying over an entire
row of cars.  Fortunately, no driver including Blount was injured but many
of the top competitors sustained heavy damage.  All three of the top point
men in the series Dennis Berry, Dave Kuhlman and Fred Campbell were
involved but all were able to retun to the race.  The most seriously
damaged car was that of Berlin native Joe Bush whose car appeared to be
totally destroyed.  Others eliminated in the incident were Vern Slagh, Ken
Weston, and Blount.

Following a 1/2 hour delay to clean up the track it was Akron, OH's Scott
Baker who grabbed the early lead.  Baker appeared to be on cruise control
as he worked through traffic and built a commanding lead.  But in the back
of the pack, Kuhlman was working his way through the field.  By lap 40,
Kuhlman was on Baker's bumper and two laps later he had taken the top
spot.  From there Kuhlman checked out and cruised to a relatively easy
victory.  Rounding out the top five behind Kuhlman were Baker, Tim Ice,
Campbell, and Bob Holley.

Next week, the series returns to the Toledo Speedway for a Sunday night
race.  The series winds down the following weekend with a Saturday race at
Sandusky (OH) Speedway, and a Sunday race at Toledo Speedway.
