Dramatic Start Into Last Third Of The Season - Malcher Wins Again

Budapest, 13 August.  Jean-Pierre Malcher (JMB Competition) from
France secured his position as points leader of the Porsche SuperCup
by adding the Budapest round of his tally of victories.
The 45 years old racing professional had already earned maximum points
from the races in Monaco and Magny-Cours (F). Said a delighted Malcher
after 16 exhausting laps on the demanding track close to Budapest:
"That was a perfect start into the last third of the season. For the
first few laps I could take it quite easy, but then Marco Werner
started really chasing hard. It was a big relief for me to see him
disappear."

Marco Werner (D, Udo Schneider Motorsport) was only 23/1000 of a second
slower than Malcher in yesterday's qualifying. Today he shadowed the
Frenchman almost over the whole racing distance, only to spin off the
track with a technical problem in the last lap. From the fifth lap to
the finish Juergen von Gartzen (D,Falke Oberbayern Motorsport) fended
off a determined challenge from Emmanuel Collard (F, JMB Competition).
The duel between these two was the breathtaking highlight of the race.         
Von Gartzen finished second ahead of his French competitor. The pair
crossed the line ahead of Dutchman Patrick Huisman (Dutch Racing
Promotions), making the race result a reflection of the top-positions
in the drivers standings.

Spectators and insiders of the racing scene were eager to see the
performance of the two young guest drivers in their Pirelli/Shell/RTL
-Carreras. Norberto Fontana (20) from Argentina is the current leader
of the International German Formula 3 Championship. He is closely
followed by German Ralf Schumacher, who is the same age. The F3-hotspurs
qualyfied third (Schumacher) and fourth (Fontana) of the unfamiliar
Porsche 911. Fontana had not practiced a start in the Porsche and fell
back to eights position. During the race he fought his way up to fifth
place in the finish after locking horns with Formula 1 veteran
Jean-Pierre Jarier (F, Larbre Competition).

Ralf Schumacher had a perfect start, but in lap three fell back to 11th
place after a spectacular spin. Ralf was back in seventh position when
the chequered flag dropped and was content with his race: "In the
opening laps I let von Gartzen and Collard pass, because they are
fighting for the SuperCup. I enjoyed driving the 911, but there is a
lot to learn before you can match the speed of the top drivers here."
