NEWS FROM THE AUTO TRADER RAC BRITISH TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

SWEDEN'S Rickard Rydell ended a week of testing at the Knockhill
circuit this evening (Thurs) topping the time sheets by a healthy
margin and looking in top form for Sunday's twin rounds of the Auto
Trader RAC British Touring Car Championship.

Rydell and his Volvo 850 were quickest in all four of the test
sessions held at the demanding Scottish circuit. His best lap time,
53.397s, was nearly two-tenths of a second quicker than that of his
nearest rival, Kiwi Paul Radisich in the Ford Mondeo. Rydell's team-
mate, Tim Harvey, was third quickest to underline Volvo's regained
competitiveness.

Championship leader and local hero John Cleland was sixth quickest in
his Vauxhall Cavalier, just ahead of his team-mate James Thompson.
Twenty-one-year-old Thompson will miss Sunday's races after a high-
speed accident on Tuesday put him in hospital with severe bruising and
concussion. His place in the Vauxhall 1 team has been taken by Cleland' 5
old sparring partner, Jeff Allam, who posted 13th quickest time.
