LARRY ROESELER BATTLES FOR HEAVY METAL HONORS.

BARSTOW  CALIFORNIA - Kawasaki Motorcycle rider, Larry Roeseler of Hesperia
California, took third place honors  at the LRDR Johnson Valley Night Race
held near Victorville in the High Desert region of California on Saturday
night.

The Johnson Valley 200 was round 5 of the LRDR High Desert Championship
Series.

Roeseler, driving a Full  Size two wheel drive Ford F250 in the Desert Super
Truck Division finished third outright and first in class. The Desert Super
Truck Division, was established 5 years ago by Offroad sanctioning
organization LRDR to provide a venue for full-size pickup trucks with
unlimited suspension modifications, and full space frame tubular chassis.

Since the introduction of the Division, several other race promoters have
also adopted the class.

With temperatures approaching 100 degrees the field of 92 entries started the
200 mile race at 5-00pm. Roeseler started third on the grid ahead of a group
of eight Unlimited Class 2 Offroad race cars, who were considered to be among
the race favorites.

At the conclusion of lap one Roeseler had established a comfortable margin on
the rest  of the field, to be first car on the road. However he experienced
two flats on lap two , forcing his team to loose valuable time changing them.

Class 10 driver Randy Spahr, of Azusa California, seized the opportunity and
moved to establish a lead as several of the more powerful Class 2 Offroad
Race cars, withdrew or suffered mechanical problems, including Brian Attwood
of  Winsor California  who rolled at high speed, at mile marker 24. Attwood
was unhurt in the incident. Attwood was driving a new car in the class.

Roeseler's stop for two tires also allowed Rich Fersch of  La Habra,
California driving a Mirage Offroad Race Car,  to move into second place.

The tightly contested race was finally won by Randy Spahr in a time of  4
hours 20 minutes, 14 seconds, a  margin of only one minute over the second
place Rich Fersch, and two minutes two seconds ahead of the hard charging
Roeseler.

Roeseler was later quoted as saying the course was one of the most enjoyable
that he had  competed on, and that he was planning to contest the rest of the
LRDR Series.

The third place overall and first place in class win, for Roeseler gave him
his first points of the season in the Class 150 Desert Super Truck Division,
resulting in his moving into second place in the Desert Super Truck Division.

He completed the night race with an average speed of  45.75 miles per hour.
Race winner Randy Spahr, averaged 46.11 miles per hour.

Spahr's victory added  42 points to his points total, moving him from sixth
position to fifth in  the Class 10 points Championship.

Rich Fersch of  La Habra California, gained 36 points for a second overall,
and moved him  to first place in points for the Class Championship,
displacing Larry Bollin of Anaheim California, by one point in the
Championship. Bollin finished 9th.

Conditions on the 50 mile race course were considered perfect, with a steady
breeze clearing the dust from the heavy silt areas around the course.

A contingent of four team members from Europe were attending the race to plan
for their return in 1996 to contest the LRDR Series.

Team Equippe Raid, who are based in Reidisheim France are experienced
contestants in the eight day Paris - Dakar Offroad Raid event. The team races
a Mercedes 6 wheel drive truck in the Paris Dakar events.

There are two further races in the 1995 LRDR La Rana Series, one at
Ridgecrest on September 22 through 24, and the final double points scoring
round at Lucerne on November  17 through 19.
