All Star Sprint Results

    CROSSVILLE, TN - Kenny "The Mouse" Jacobs outdueled Club All Star sprint
seriespoint leader Dale Blaney in a game of cat and mouse Friday night at 
Crossville Speedway.  The event, round one of the three race Summer Sizzler 
Series, was worth $4,000 to Jacobs for his sixth feature win of the season 
and third triumph out of the last five All Star events.

   Jacobs was aboard the Warren Johnson-United Expresslines Schnee with a 
Gaerte Chevy powerplant, wrenched by Mike Cool, while Blaney's runnerup 
mount is the Tim Hughes J&J, wrenched by Frank Thompson, Davey Brown, Jr. 
and Todd Palmer, utilizing Kriner Chevy engines. 
   Finishing behnd the leaders was Frankie Kerr in Stan Shoff's J&J, with 
Ricky Hood fourth in Joe Herrera's Avenger and Keith Kaufman's Maxim fifth.

   After Jacobs set a new Crossville track record at 10.661 seconds, he 
took the lead at the start of the 30-lap affair from fourth starting slot 
on the high banked 3/8 mile oval, but the action was slowed 20 seconds 
later when Brian Carlson dumped his mount on lap two. He was not injured 
in the flip. 

   Jacobs led again when the green reappeared, with fifth starter Blaney 
right on his tail. The leaders got into lapped traffic on the quick oval 
almost instantly, and that's where the game of cat and mouse began. Blaney 
would run right up on Jacobs in the open, but the veteran Jacobs sliced 
expertly through the slower machines with a fine precision, choosing the 
right hole every time, leaving Blaney no room to pass.  Kerr ran steadily 
in third, but was never able to challenge the leaders. The track was tacky 
enough for the fast machines to run any groove on the speedway, high or 
low at will.

   With the track starting to slick over in the latter stages, the high 
groove was the place to run fast. Kauffman, who started seventh and Hood, 
from ninth, battled furiously running the high groove, with Hood finally 
grabbing fourth for good with only four circuits remaining.

   Danny Smith, aboard the Kenny Bodkins Jenkins, came from tenth to sixth 
at the end, with third starting Todd Kane seventh in the Holbrook Motorsports 
Schnee utilizing a Marty Kane engine. Volunteer state driver Joey Nash moved 
his J&J from 14th to eighth at the end, ahead of eighth starting Daniel 
Coggeshell's Viper and next to last row starter Mike Lutz in the House of 
Music, Quaker Steak and Lube mount. 

   With temperatures near 100 degrees, one driver remarked "It's too hot to
race." But one fan answered, "Yes, but it's not too hot to watch." And the 
hot action on the speedway more than compensated for the uncomfortable 
temperatures.
