Salo finishes eight from 23rd on grid

Mika Salo drove another charging race and finished a strong eight after 
starting today's British Grand Prix from the 23rd position on the grid. Mika 
made an excellent start and was 17th at the end of the first lap. He stopped 
for fuel and tyres on laps 19 and 38.

Ukyo Katayama also drove superbly and was running 8th on lap 22 from 14th on 
the grid. On the in-lap before his first planned pit stop for fuel and 
tyres, Ukyo had a problem with fuel starvation and was forced to retire.

Mika Salo: "I should have finished 7th but Martini pushed me on the grass on 
the Hangar straight and I did 360! I was lucky I could control the car and 
rejoin the race. I spent a lot of time behind him during the race, I was 
quicker but he was waving all the time on the straights.

It's a shame the rain started one minute after the end of the race because I 
would have loved wet conditions for today. I think I proved that if I had 
not had to start from the 23rd place I would have finished in the points. 
The car was a lot better. I am delighted for Johnny, he's been trying for a 
long time and he deserves his victory, well done. Lucky bastard!"

Ukyo Katayama: "Berger started slowly and I had to drive on the outside line 
and Martini came inside of me. I did not want to take any risk at the first 
corner after what happened at the French Grand Prix. The balance of the car 
was good and I was confident for this race. Unfortunately, on the last lap 
before my first pit stop, the engine cut suddenly."

Harvey Postlethwaite, Managing Director - Engineering: "Mika and Ukyo drove 
very well today. We are investigating the tank problem that caused Ukyo's 
fuel starvation. We progressed with the car this weekend and we will test at 
Magny-Cours on Wednesday and Thursday."

Mr Kimura - Yamaha F1 Project Leader: "We are bitterly disappointed for 
Ukyo, as a finish in the points could have been on the cards today. However, 
looking at the positive side, Mika drove a very strong race considering his 
start position and both engines performed reliably."
