Qualifying session - quotes
The qualifying session was interrupted after ten minutes. The reason:
Giancarlo Fisichella had lost control directly in front of the hairpin
and went through a heavy impact into the crash barriers. Which were
damaged so badly, that it took one hour and fifteen minutes to repair
them, before the session could be re-started.
26 - Giancarlo Fisichella
"It looks, as if the suspension had broken. Fortunately I'm not injured.
But the car probably won't to repair in time for the race on Sunday.
It's a pity, but it seems, the weekend is over for me."
4 -Jan Magnussen
"All dayI experienced problems in the big chicane. So I had to find a
totally different line. It looks, as if I was successful in finding it
just in time, doesn't it?"
9 - Manuel Reuter
"After I slipped back more and more, I had to go out again for a second
attempt. It was the right decision, for the tyres need some laps on this
track, before they really work like they should."
15 - Dario Franchitti
"The car is great, the lap was great, now I'm happy. And I really don't
see, why everybody believes, that this track should give an advantage to
four wheel drive cars. I can't see this advantage at all."
19 - Michael Bartels
"I did just two laps to achieve my time. Now I'm rather optimistic for
tomorrow, as my tyres are still really fresh. This session was a really
exciting one, even big names like Stefano Modena, Alessandro Nannini and
Klaus Ludwig had to fight hard for a top fifteen placement."
10 - Yannick Dalmas
"I was out twice. In the meantime I was stuck in the pits with some
problems. Probably the best tactics was to go out in the last five
minutes of the session. It was then anyway, that I did my fastest lap."
8 - Nicola Larini
"I did just one fast lap to enter Top Qualifying group A. It's tomorrow
and Sunday, when it really counts. In 1994 Mercedes was the fastest in
the qualifying too, but the races were won by Alfas."
6 -Kurt Thiim
"It's crazy! Two hairpins, one S-curve and several straights. I can't
understand, where we are loosing the time. And it will become very
difficult tomorrow, because the tyres need four or five laps to develop
their grip."
