BUILDING ON SUCCESS: BRITAIN'S TOP RACE SERIES EXPANDS IN 1996
The calendar for next year's Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship
announced today features an unprecedented 26 rounds, including for
the first time two races at the prestigious British Grand Prix
meeting.
As in 1995, the 12 TOCA fixtures will be staged at seven different
circuits nationwide. Highlights include two visits to Thruxton, the
fastest circuit on the current Auto Trader Championship calendar.
Although exact formats are still to be confirmed, all of these
meetings will again feature two touring car races.
Auto Trader is extending its successful sponsorship of the series for
two more years and Ford, Renault and Vauxhall, the three most
active motor manufacturers in British motor sport, will again run
their major championships as part of the full support race
programme in 1996. The nostalgic Historic Racing Saloon Car
Championship provides further entertainment.
Silverstone's timetable for the 1996 British Grand Prix will include
touring car races on both Saturday (the final day of Formula 1
qualifying) and Sunday. This new move gives the Auto Trader
Championship an even greater role in Britain's biggest and most
important motor sport weekend
"`We already have the most impressive and popular motor sport package
ever seen in Britain and we are delighted that we can now build
further on our achievements with our established partners in 1996
and beyond,"' says Alan Gow, managing director of TOCA Ltd,
organiser of the Auto Trader Championship.
