VAN DER LINDE BLITZES OPPOSITION

KYALAMI: Etienne van der Linde showed he had fully recovered from 
his horror accident at Midvaal when he blitzed the opposition at 
Kyalami on Saturday to win both rounds of the NGK Formula GTi 
Championship.

The two races were mirror images of each other with Van der Linde 
taking his Swift 92 into the lead from the green light and simply 
racing away from the opposition to the chequered flag.

Henni Groenewald in the WAP/SKF Swift finished both races in second 
place providing the strongest challenge to Van der Linde but just 
unable to get close enough to the young driver to make a pass 
possible.

Morne Jurgens (Swift 92) simply was not on the pace and had to be 
content with third place in both races ahead of Barry Ingle (Acme 
Motori Swift) and Alan Eve (DAW Swift). 

Stefan Bosman and Malcolm Cochrane each had a sixth place overall 
and first in Class B.

Former Formula Ford and Gti Champion Basil Mann had an inauspicious 
return to racing after a long lay-off, his Riken Electric Swift SF93 
suffering with engine problems in both heats.
