TRUE VALUE DODGE INTERNATIONAL RACE OF CHAMPIONS XIX NOTES

HURLEY HAYWOOD -- The race at Darlington was a real learning experience.
I enjoyed it a lot. You had to be real aggressive. It was almost like a
road race circuit in that you had to get the brakes down to slow the car
down. Considering it was my first-ever time at the track, I felt it came
out good. At least I didn't crash.

This is a track where you have to be in the right place at the right
time to do good. If you've got a good car and catch a couple of breaks,
it could be anybody's race.

STEVE MILLEN -- This track is so different from Darlington where we
had only one racing line. I've been out there running with Jim Sauter
and Hurley Haywood and there are so many (racing) lines to run here.
Obviously, drafting is still going to be the key. I've still got a
lot to learn in that department. In my series (IMSA road racing) we
really don't draft so this is a new deal for me. You don't pick up the
skill for drafting overnight. To understand drafting, to do it right
and to have the "feel" for it that you need requires lots and lots of
racing miles. I feel very good in the car and I feel I can be much more
aggressive than I have in the past two races. I'm here to do as well as
I can.

There was so much going on at Daytona during our first race. We had
so much to learn. You don't want to screw up and crash so, maybe, you
play a little conservative. I did. At Darlington, I was a bit more
comfortable. Here, in our third race, we've started to figure out
things. That may be why some people have had success -- like Steve
Kinser -- in the third race.

JIM SAUTER -- (Sauter, along with Dave Marcis and Dick Trickle, are the
trio who set up the IROC cars at each track and spend on-track time
teaching the non-NASCAR Winston Cup drivers in the series the ins and
outs of close-quarters stock car racing.) -- Darlington is the biggest
challenge for the drivers who don't have stock car experience. Both
Hurley and Steve look real comfortable out there. I've told both of them
that they have to pay attention. The speed here is real relative because
of the size of the race track. You can lose concentration and get into
trouble real easy if you're not careful.

It's a tough deal for guys like Hurley and Steve and Tom to run against
the Winston Cup guys because they do this type of racing every day.
Steve is aggressive when he feels he can be and takes it easy when he
can't. He's doing good. I hope he wins his series' championship so he
can come back next year. Hurley does a good job, too. People, the fans,
tend to overlook these guys -- those drivers from other than Winston
Cup. The key for them is to be in the series a few times. Then, they
get comfortable with the cars and with the style of driving and they do
good.
