KYALAMI, ZA : Terry Moss gave the Rothmans Audi Quattro its debut 
win the AA Fleetcare Super Touring Championship at Kyalami on 
Saturday, sharing the spoils with Mike Brigg's Opel Vectra which won 
the first of the two races.

In the first race poleman Mike Briggs (Opel Vectra) blasted away 
from the line and into the lead he was to maintain through to the 
finish. Grant McCleery in the second Opel slotted into second place 
with Shaun van der Linde (BMW 318i) in third place - these positions 
also destined to remain unchanged for the 12 laps.

Anthony Taylor (Castrol Toyota Camry) was second fastest in practice 
following a visit to the country by Julian Bailey who helped the 
team in testing prior to official practice.

In fourth spot Anthony Taylor, after a slow start, and Deon Joubert 
(BMW 318i) were involved in a tussle which lasted two laps when 
Taylor nudged Joubert into a spin coming onto the main straight. 
Taylor then claimed the position but found himself under increasing 
pressure from Terry Moss' Rothmans Audi 80 quattro - Moss going past 
under braking on lap nine.

Chris Aberdein in the second Rothmans Audi then took up the 
challenge and outbraked Taylor into the AA Bowl on the final lap. 
However, at the chicane Taylor tried to dive underneath Aberdein and 
punted the Audi off the circuit under braking.

This let Steve Wyndham in the Ford Mondeo through to claim fourth 
place behind Moss with Aberdein dropped to 10th overall and Taylor 
excluded from the results of the race.

Shortly before the start of the second race it began to rain and, 
although the rain had stopped when the cars moved onto the track, 
the surface was slick and slippery.

Moss made a brilliant start from the second row of the grid to power 
the four-wheel drive Rothmans Audi into the lead and set about 
pulling away from the field.

The first lap produced chaos at the AA Bowl when McCleery hit 
Aberdein's Audi and spun him. Behind this the BMWs of Shaun van der 
Linde and Sabine Reck also touched as they tried to avoid Aberdein - 
both ending up in the gravel trap and out of the race. On the second 
lap Mike Briggs lost control of his Vectra in Total Corner and 
smashed heavily into the barriers, destroying the car. He was 
unhurt.

While Moss steadily pulled away from the field Sarel van der Merwe 
moved his Sasol Ford Mondeo into second place with Steve Wyndham 
slotted neatly into third ahead of Anthony Taylor - these all 
holding position to the finish.

Aberdein recovered from his spin to charge through the field to take 
fifth place at the finish ahead of Deon Joubert and Giniel de 
Villiers (Nissan Sentra).
