SETON TAKES A WET AND WILD ISLAND

PHILLIP ISLAND, MELB SUNDAY, APRIL 9, 1995: Local knowledge, terrible
weather and superior tyres saw Ford driver Glen (the Speed Hump) Seton
take overall victory in round 4 of the Shell Australian Touring Car
Championships. 

Seton started from pole ahead of Holden factory driver Thomas Mezera in
his brand new VP Commodore with Setons team mate Alan Jones next just in
front of Australia's oldest teenager Peter Brock in the second factory
Holden.

Points leader John Bowe and team mate Dick Johnson were slightly off the
pace with their new UK built Dunlops untested on the spectacular 4.445 km
Island circuit.

Brock won a dramatic first heat which was stopped early after torrential
rain blanketed the track causing several cars including Mezera to leave
the track. Mezera's brand new toy was severely damaged and the driver was
taken away for medical observation although he was later released.
Alan Jones was second in the Peter Jackson Falcon from Seton and privateer
Trevor Ashby in a great performance from the under funded Dulux team.

For heat 2 Jones got another of his trademark starts to lead Seton , Brock
and Ashby. 

Seton moved past his team mate while Ashby slowly dropped back through the
field. The race remained unaffected by the changeable weather and Seton
and Jones went on to a high speed formation finish ahead of a fast
finishing Brock, Bowe and Johnson and Commodore driver defending champ
Mark Skaife.

Young Paul Romano in his laregly unsponsored Commodore continued his fine
rookie season to finish 10th and claim privateer honours.
