PORSCHE CANCELS WSC PROGRAM
No Starts in Sebring or Le Mans

Porsche AG has terminated its factory involvement in the World Sports Car
Series (WSC). This means that Porsche will not start with its open sports
prototypes in either the 12 hour race in Sebring, USA, on March 18, nor in
the 24 hour race at Le Mans (France) on the weekend of June 17-18.

Background to this decision was a change in the rules, made by organizers of
the American IMSA series on short notice, just before the 24 hour race in
Daytona. IMSA decreed that Porsche prototypes reduce their air restrictors
from 34.5 to 32 millimeters and increase vehicle weight by 45 kilograms for
the endurance races in Daytona and Sebring. Participation in these two U.S.
events would only have been possible with the cars at a technical
disadvantage produced by these unbalanced regulations. Hoping that technical
problems will fell the competition over a long racing distance neither can
nor should be the basis for factory engagement by Porsche. This withdrew the
sporting and financial basis of the program, for 1995 at least, since
Porsche only views the high outlays needed to race at Le Mans in particular
as justifiable when they could be spread over several events. Porsche had
considered its Sebring entry as a test for Le Mans, among other things.

The declared goal of Porsche's WSC effort was to give motor racing with open
sports cars a new international image because only worldwide entry of these
cars can justify their high development outlays. Porsche has taken an active
part in creating the necessary technical rules for such cars (particularly
for cars with turbocharging) and attempted to achieve a fair as well as
technical balance with rival, unblown concepts. This was accepted by IMSA
over a long period and continues to be recognized and applied by the
organizers of the Le Mans race.

Porsche AG will continue to maintain its ties to motor sport and further
pursue its interest in international racing at the top level. To this end,
Porsche is always willing to foster dialogue with responsible sporting
authorities and race organizers.

Should the necessary framework conditions change, Porsche will reconsider
renewed involvement at the proper time.
